Anyone have any great ideas on how to get some free"ish" marketing/advertising?

One I obviously know that works is throwing an event, from a potluck,to movie night, or just plain old bar invites this is a sure fire way of getting peoples attention. Try to offer something fun, free, and informative (oh and key point is to avoid the "smell" of "sell".

What ideas have you guys come up with?Confused
